Section 40: Welfare and Health of Contract Labour

(1) The facilities required to be provided under Section 18 and 19 of the Act, namely, sufficient supply of wholesome drinking water, a sufficient number of latrines and urinals, washing facilities and first-aid facilities, shall be provided by the contractor in the case of the existing establishments within seven days of the commencement of these rules and in the case of new establishments within seven days of the commencement of the employment of contract labour therein .

(2) If any of the facilities mentioned in sub-rule (1) is not provided by the contractor within the period prescribed the same shall be provided by the principal employer within seven days of the expiry of the period laid down in the said sub-rule.
