| Description | The Government of Bihar has promulgated the Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Repeal) Ordinance, 2026 on 1 June 2026, thereby repealing the Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2025 with immediate effect. The Ordinance has been introduced on the grounds that the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 (OSH Code), which came into force on 21 November 2025, already covers several aspects that overlapped with the Bihar Shops and Establishments Act, 2025. The Government has stated that the repeal is intended to eliminate duplicative compliance requirements and facilitate industrial and economic growth within the State. Key highlights of the Ordinance are as follows: 1. The Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2025 stands repealed with immediate effect. 2. The Ordinance is titled the Bihar Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Repeal) Ordinance, 2026 and became effective upon promulgation. 3. Any proceedings, actions, or matters initiated under the repealed Act will continue and remain valid as if the Act had not been repealed. 4. The repeal has been undertaken considering the overlap between the State Act and the provisions of the OSH Code, 2020.
