AUTHORITIES

Authority Duties Powers
Central Government To determine the extent of the act and to make rules to give effect to the Act To make regulations and rules, to appoint a court of inquiry into accidents, to exempt mines from leave rules
Chief Inspectors To implement and enforce the Act To delegate powers to Inspectors, to declare areas to which Inspector shall exercise control, make examinations and inquiries, inspect and examine, with assistants, any part of the mine at day or night, and take statements from persons
Inspectors To implement and enforce the Act Make examinations and inquiries, inspect and examine, with assistants, any part of the mine at day or night, examine the state and condition of the mine and things related to health, safety and welfare, and take statements from people
Special Officer To survey, level or measure mines On written authorisation from the Chief Inspector or an inspector, to enter a mine for the purpose of surveying, levelling or measuring any mine or any output, after giving not less than 3 days notice
Certifying Surgeons To carry out duties with regard to people engaged in dangerous occupations or processes in mines, and the exercise of medical supervision in mines where illnesses are known to be caused due to working conditions To authorise any qualified medical practitioner to carry out duties
Committee To advise the Central Government on matters related to the Act and to administer some parts of the Act To make recommendations to the Central Govt regarding rules and regulations, to enquire into accidents referred to it and to hear and decide appeals against orders or rules or laws under this Act .
